St. ERHARD KellerBeats

St. ERHARD KellerBeats

For us, St. ERHARD is much more than the beer that we produce. We are working on building an iconic brand whose values spread beyond the material product features. We embrace design and the arts. That’s why we decided to start a new series of events where we promote upcoming bands and their music. We called it “St. ERHARD KellerBeats”.

The first concert, St. ERHARD KellerBeats Volume#1, will take place on February 7th, 2014 at Live Club Bamberg. Our first performing band will be Bülbül Manush from Erlangen. The after show party will be hosted by Drosophila Sound from Bayreuth.

We’re looking forward to welcoming many of our St. ERHARD fans at this kick-off event in Bamberg. For more information please also visit the following Facebook event site:

What would you say if somebody tells you that he will take a 3,500 km journey across the Indian subcontinent with a 7 horesepower rickshaw? You might think this is crazy and so thought we when we were addressed by Björn and Mirko who wanted to form a German team to participate in  “The Rickshaw Run” 2014. But because we like crazy ideas and have been a crazy idea ourselves when we started off exporting German beer to India we wanted to support them.

The start of the race has been January 1st 2014 in the City of Jaisalmer in Northern India. For the next 14 days they will try to make their way to Cochin in Southern India. A given route does not exist, the journey is the destination. A price is just as rare, winners will be all. The Rickshaw Run is also a charity event where each team collects money for a nonprofit organization. In addition to the environmental organization Cool Earth the team raises funds for SOS Children’s Villages.

We will keep you posted on the recent developments and inform you about anything that happens on their way.

Christmas is on the doorways and now even the late risers are looking for Christmas presents for their family and friends. We thought of helping you out a bit in this difficult task. Here are two cool beer related DIY Christmas presents you can make.

A bottle opener

DIY Bottle Opener

All you need is a piece of wood, an old nail and two small magnets. The nail and the wood does the job of opening the bottle. The magnets add two additional nice features for the opener: the cap sticks after opening to the opener and you can hang the opener on your fridge for an easy access.

Expressions for Beer in Europe

Expressions for Beer in Europe

As regular readers know we recently opened our own St. ERHARD online shop. And with the EU wide delivery many people from different countries have already taken the opportunity to enjoy our premium German Kellerbier.

And with this in mind we would like to share a little light to some interesting facts connected to few of our new export markets’ beer cultures.

Finland. Maybe you have heard of wife carrying as a sport originated from Finland? Exactly, they even do World Championships in it.  The objective is for the male to carry the female through a special obstacle track in the fastest time. And the reward? Beer in the weight of the wife’s weight.

Regarding competitions, carrying and beer – there is also a beer carrying competitions held in Germany. And the world record from most beer steins carried over 40 m by a female is 19 achieved by Anita Schwarz (Germany). Outstanding.

Estonia. In old times in Estonia Christmas was also knows as the Feast of Beer. Why? Because all the beer which was brewed up to the Feast of St. Thomas (held in the beginning of July) should have sufficed until the Feast of the Three Kings (held on the 6th of January).

Sweden. Only one store chain sells hard alcohol since 1955 – government set up Systembolaget. It’s the only place you can buy wine and spirits and beer with an alcohol content above 3.5 percent.

And lastly an interesting infographics – a map showing how “beer” is called in in each different country in Europe and the roots of them.

We are very proud that St. ERHARD was featured in the Bayrischer Rundfunk (BR) last Sunday. It was a very interesting experience having a camera team filming us at work.
In this blog post I want to tell you more about this feature and how it was made.

We were really happy when the BR contacted us in October and told us that they want to do feature about us in Sunday’s Frankenschau. After we organized all the details we scheduled the date for the shoot. This shooting day was a really interesting experience because we had the chance to see behind the myth of television. At November, 6th a camera man, an audio engineer and a television journalist came to our office at the IGZ (Center for Innovations und New Ventures) in Bamberg.
Once we showed them around in our rooms, we directly started shooting. Time is money! After we were filmed in our office and our Founder Christan Klemenz was interviewed, we also decided to show the BR-Team our warehouse where our products are stored and prepared for the shipping to India and Hong Kong or to our costumers in Germany and the rest of Europe. Subsequently, we moved on to “Moe’s Bar” in Bamberg to shoot some scenes with the guests of Moe’s drinking our St. ERHARD.

This nearly whole day of shooting ended up in a very nice 5-minute feature about St. ERHARD in the Frankenschau at November, 24th .

Thanks again to the BR-Team for they great work. And now check out the video!

Our New Team Member Mart from Estonia

Our New Team Member Mart from Estonia

My name is Mart Raus and this is my first day in St. ERHARD. I am here through the Erasmus Entrepreneur program.

First, I would like to introduce myself. I have grown up in Tartu, Estonia – quite similar town to Bamberg with its size and university. Historically Estonia has had much influence from Germany and as such we have also a strong beer culture and some good beers.

After my university studies I co-founded a company that produces a unique product “Grillcube” that helps grillers start their BBQ charcoal very easily with just one match, but without any flavor ruining lighter fluid additives.

And of course, a tasty charcoal grilled pork and a very fine beer is an excellent match!

I got to know St. ERHARD as a very fast growing and globally orientated start-up from a historical beer region in Germany. I liked the brand and very good execution behind it and think this project helps to grow both companies. I love a good beer and it’s great to be working with St. ERHARD.

Feel free to contact me anytime by writing a comment below or sending an e-mail. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

The St. ERHARD Team with the Founders Award (f.r.t.l: Justus, Aline and Founder Christian)

Last Wednesday was a special day for us! We won the Founders Award (Gründerpreis) of the Sparkasse Bamberg. We are very happy about that and give thanks to the Sparkasse Bamberg for the recognition of our passionate work over the last two years.

Since 2009 the Sparkasse Bamberg bestow the Founders Award, which includes a prize money of 5,000 €, to innovative and exceptional young start-ups from the region of Bamberg. The award ceremony took place within the “20. Bamberger Wirtschaftstage” (20th Days of the Bamberg economy) at the concert hall Bamberg. During this special occasion, after the awards were handed over to the winners, we were glad to have the chance to listen to a inspiring speech of Dr. Florian Langenscheidt, who is a important manager, publisher, entrepreneur and business angel in Germany.

Finally we want to thank the Sparkasse Bamberg again for this award and the special evening at the concert hall Bamberg.

PS.: Also check the pictures of the evening on our facebook site.

The St. ERHARD team at “The Leading Beers” (from right to left: Justus, Christian, Aline)

Last weekend St. ERHARD participated in “The Leading Beers” festival, one of the biggest beer culture festivals in Germany. At “The Leading Beers” the best breweries and their beers come together with music, arts and culinary specialties. Hundreds of visitors from all over the world could try a vast number of beer styles from 30 different breweries. Next to the tasting of the different beers, the visitors could also try matching styles of cheese or chocolate to their respective beer and listen to music from different bands. There was also a big panel discussion regarding the German “Reinheitsgebot” with Oliver Wesseloh, Sebastian Priller, Georg VI. Schneider, Dr. Werner Gloßner, Norbert Krines, Dr. Lothar Ebbertz and Justin Leone. Furthermore different proven experts of the beer business gave lectures, like our founder Christian Klemenz on “Beer in India – A New Market Delevops”.

We are very glad that we could meet a lot of interesting people, try good beer, present our product and just enjoy the two days at the Amberger Congress Centrum.

St. ERHARD is “True Beer Excellence”, but “The Leading Beers” is “True Beer Culture Excellence”!

Finally we want to say “Thank you” to the organizational team of the University of Applied Science Amberg-Weiden for their great work. We look forward to “The Leading Beers” 2014!

P.S.: Check out the pictures of “The Leading Beers” on our Facebook page!

St. ERHARD won the German Design Award 2014

St. ERHARD won the German Design Award 2014

In July this year St. ERHARD was nominated for the German Design Award 2014 and last week, as you might know, the winners were announced. Owing to its puristic bottle design St. ERHARD was exceptionally honored with a “Special Mention” Award. Thereby St. ERHARD is the only German beer brand, which won the German Design Award 2014. We are very delighted by that and say “thank you” to the German Design Council.

Initiated by the German Federal Parliament and endowed by German enterprises, the German Design Council awards the German Design Award every year since 1954. An expert panel evaluates different products regarding their design or conception.

Due to our remarkable and innovative bottle design we, as a young start-up, could win this highly coveted award. Our St. ERHARD beer comes in an unusual transparent, but UV-protected design bottle and the German Design Council acknowledged this deliberate reduction of our design, which highlights the amber-colored beer. With its special design St. ERHARD is a modern version of a traditional, delicious Franconian Kellerbier.

Following the winner annoucement from last week, the official award presentation ceremony will take place at the 7th February within the Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt/Main.
